Vidcoder Mac

VidCoder is a free DVD/Blu-ray ripping and video transcoding application for Windows with batch encoding and multiple threads supported. It uses HandBrake as its encoding engine. Compared with HandBrake, it has a relatively rich UI. The same as HandBrake, it does not defeat the CSS encryption found in most commercial DVDs. The screenshot above shows the main VidCoder screen. The layout is pretty straight forward, the top section allows you to load in the file/disc you want to convert, then you can select the destination, choose an encoding profile or custom settings, and finally, there's the work queue, a list of all conversions one after the other that you can schedule and run. Unlike VideoPad Video Editor, offered by NCH software that allows you to edit videos without paying, Prism Video Converter is a paid video converter developed by NCH that lets it's user convert videos for personal use. It runs on all recent Mac and Windows (64 bit).

VidCoder comes in handy if you want to rip DVD or BD to widely supported and playable video formats MP4 and MKV. Like most DVD ripping software, VidCoder offers both customizable ripping settings and dumb-easy presets. If you are an experienced user, you can control the results as you wish, such as the format, video size, resolution, and quality.

VidCoder is an open-source DVD/Blu-ray ripping and video transcoding application for Windows. It uses HandBrake as its encoding engine.

Blu-rays and DVDsVidCoder can rip Blu-rays and DVDs but does not defeat the encryption found on commercial discs. You’ve got several options to remove it:

  • AnyDVD HD ($122, removes encryption on the fly for Blu-ray and DVD, good support for all discs)
  • Passkey for Blu-ray/DVD ($168, removes encryption on the fly for Blu-ray and DVD, good support for all discs)
  • Passkey Lite (Free, removes encryption on the fly for Blu-ray and DVD, does not support all discs)
  • MakeMKV (Free, requires copying to the hard drive before encoding, supports Blu-ray and DVD)
  • WinX DVD Ripper ($60, supports DVD only, requires copying to the hard drive before encoding)

Reporting Bugs

If you encounter any bugs with encoding, please see if they happen with the official HandBrake client as well. If the problem is reproducible on HandBrake, submit the issue to them. If it’s only VidCoder that has the problem, submit it here.
